Fact 1

Anne b 1775 was the only surviving child  of William VINGOE  & Ann nee MADRON. Anne  received a bequest  of 5 from  her grandfather, John Vingoe of Sennen in his WILL of  1791, payable when she was 21.

Fact 2

Her father, William Vingoe, at the time of his marriage in 1774, was in the Royal Navy on board a sloop HMS "Wolf". With the death of her mother in 1883 she may have been  left in the care of her grandparents if her father was still in the service.

Fact 3

The land at Trevescan & Escalls  passed down to her uncle, John Vingoe b 1750. Her  father William b 1743  received forty shillings a year for life. At the time of his father's death he may have been retired  from the service with a pension, but could well have been recalled to service  in 1793 with the start  of the French wars.

Fact 4

Anne Vingoe age 23  married Henry Pearce, a widower 25 years her senior in 1798. He had previously been married to a Dorcas James   05 Aug 1780  St Hilary

Fact 2.                                                                                                                            Baptisms Newlyn St Peter 29 Nov 1881. Three children of Joseph & Mary Elizabeth Barnes, Farmer of Tredavoe, all baptised on the same day - Eugene, Leola & Edgar!

Note: In 1904 Edgar BARNES sent a PC from Calumet & Hecla, a mining area on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Many Cornish went there to find work in the copper mines. The card was written to his sister Leola, living in Tredavoe, a hamlet above Newlyn. In it he mentions that his brother Warley has also not heard from her, so  presumably Warley was also  living in Michigan. I found this card at Redruth PC Fair 100 years later.

Fact 1:

CARDEW* is the old spelling of CARTHEW**

In Cornish the hard D was originally pronounced with a softer, lisping TH sound as in CARTHEW. In speech the name began to be  pronounced, by those who taught people how to read but had no knowledge of the spoken language, with the more familiar and anglicised hard D.............which then became the more "correct" spelling!

    Mary VINGOE

3 candidates for Mary VINGOE all baptised in Sennen:

1]  bt 21  Mar 1754  Sennen  d/o William  & Jane  VINGOE ?
NO - she married Richard BOTTRELL  marr: 02 Aug 1788 Sennen.

2] bt 08 Aug 1764  Sennen, d/o Richard & Mary  VINGOE ?
NO - she married Andrew STEVENS of St Ives  marr: 18 Apr 1795 Sennen

3]  bt 20 Jul 1760  Sennen  d/o John  & Sarah (nee Dennis)?
     Probably........unmarried  in 1791

Mary  VINGOE was stated as 'unmarried' when her father John VINGOE wrote his Will, proved  in 1791. In it daughter Mary was well provided for 'until such time as her marriage'. Father John VINGOE died and was buried in Sennen 29 Dec 1789, so his daughter Mary was the most likely bride of William WILLIAMS of St Just a year or so later. She would have been aged 32.
